Just as a company focuses on its balance sheet, so too governments can benefit from a structured examination of their portfolios of assets. This paper provides an overview of the size and composition of the assets on government balance sheets and outline how focus on the balance sheet can add value by helping governments address key economic and fiscal policy challenges.
