Survey: Indian consumer sentiment during the coronavirus crisis

Nearly three-quarters of India’s consumers are optimistic about an economic recovery, and net spending intent is growing and positive across many categories. Their positivity extends to the recent holiday shopping season, with three in ten saying they planned to spend more than last year on travel. A majority of consumers in India are omnichannel shoppers, with millennials especially likely to say they are influenced by social media. Most Indian consumers (93 percent) report trying new shopping behaviors, aiming mainly for value and quality. About one-third say they are engaging in their normal out-of-home activities, prioritizing work and shopping over travel and entertainment.

These exhibits are based on survey data collected in India from October 15 to 22, 2021. Check back for regular updates on Indian consumer sentiments, behaviors, income, spending, and expectations.
